The Number '3'

Something special with ADY's no. 3 T-shirt?
The lucky number that never fails to attract fish?
I'll have to try it for myself......
Pentel's Pastel Dye Sticks is all I need...

Voila.....my very own 号 T-shirt...

Having fun with the first T-shirt....
I went on drawing one for my boy, ED

.....one for ASH

with ALX joining in the fun too...

The Pentel Fabric Fun Pastel Dye Sticks are
available at regular bookstores for around S$5

Chongster's Boat - 16th March 2012

This '小流' trip was arranged by KL
....the following hookers along with 5 others boarded
chongster's boat at 8:15 am heading straight
to the back of Pulau Tekong for action....
FJ, AN, HN plus 2 junior hookers ALX & DS

A newly painted 'Wall of Fame' displaying
some of the coolest catch on the boat....
......that number 3.........again

Spark plugs were used in rocky areas....targeting cods

A light setup with an old Silstar PR40 reel
and a Shimano 'Spin joy' retractable rod....

The ladies waiting for that 'power' catch.....
....one with Buff, the other with bluff Buff......

DS setting his rod into the makeshift rod holder
for an early lunch break....

'Ah For's Kitchen' famous Luncheon Meat Fried Rice
has become a fixed menu for our boat trips.....
so good that a hooker had 2 packs on a previous trip

FJ started the ball rolling with this Orange Spotted Grouper

AN with her first catch of the day.....a Golden Snapper

The shrimps awaiting their fate....
It'll be great if ADY is around to have a word with them

No.......HN is not playing the 琵琶....
This big grouper by her weighs just over 2 kilos
....setting a new bench mark for the Fish Hookers

In case you don't know what's a 琵琶.....
....any resemblance?

Hats off to AN's 'Never Say Die' spirit....
another Golden Snapper around the one kilo mark
....must have something to do with that MJ's glove.

ALX with her first unique catch......a Green Rough-backed Puffer

A shot of our catch

Another view of the harvest

A video of the drama at sea....

Incidentally, one of the angler brought a bunch of bananas onboard
.....possiblely causing the poor hook-up rates for this trip.

Spark Plug Sinkers

Did you know that spark plugs were often use as sinkers?
Spark plug for cars weighs approximately
a #3 Torpedo Sinker and spark plug for
bikes is about the size of a #2 sinker...
These will be great as back-up supplies especially
when you're fishing in rocky areas.......for cod.

A Nobel prize should be awarded to the one
who came up with this brilliant recycling idea...

The real ACK.....John or Russell?

Many anglers are not aware that not all snappers
with a black spot are called 'Ang Chor Kee'

The picture below is actually 'Ang Chor', otherwise
known as John's Snapper. This fish grows beyond 1 kg
and the spot on the fish seems faded...

Below is the real 'Ang Chor Kee', also known as
Russell's Snapper. The spot on this palm size fish
is much darker and distinctive....

Another picture of the Real McCoy.......红皂记

Below is another different specie altogether. Although it
has the yellow stripes of the Spanish Flag Snapper
and the black spot resembling the Russell's Snapper,
this one is called the Blackspot Snapper...

I hope this will help you identify your future catch...

Chongster's Boat - 1st March 2012

This trip was planned months ahead.....
due to unforeseen circumstances, two were unable to come.
Only five hookers turn up hoping to beat their personal best...
AN, HN, ADY, KL plus FJ

makeshift rod holders on Chongster's boat are handy when you
are playing with 2 or more rods.....provided you don't get the lines
entangled all the time....

ADY.......winning the pool money
for the first catch and the biggest fish...
something really fishy about that 'number 3' t-shirt...

ADY fiddling with his catch while Uncle Chong watches on
....how he kept the fish warm in it's last moments....

HN's Grouper......BIG......but not enough...

ADY's Bamboo Shark...
We have to convince him that he can't
make shark's fin soup with this thing...

The weather took a change at around 2 p.m. and we were
doing a mini version of Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch
Things turned much better after the rain stops
some 30 minutes later. We were landing fish after fish.....
which puts the smiles back on AN's face....
It was a nail biting experience for Uncle Chong
during the first half of the day when AN threatened
to form the 'Zero Fighter Club' together with BRY...

KL laying the fishes for a group shot.....

The harvest.....around 70 pieces
....a mix of Groupers and Snappers
....Uncle Chong always delivers....
He even caught a rare 七星班...
