An idea of how much your catch is worth.....

...NTUC Fairprice on the 16th December 2011

Assuming your catch is approximately 1kg
a Seabass will worth around S$9.00

a Grouper will worth around S$9.50
a Red Snapper will worth around S$14.50

a Tenggiri will worth around S$10.00

a Golden Pomfret will worth around S$11.00

a Yellowtail Fursilier will worth around S$7.00

of course, to all angler, any catch with their personal
rod & reel (whether it's a Abu or SureCatch)
is.........absolutely priceless

What has it got to do with Vesp@?

It all started in the mid '90s...with a scooter
I use to own....a Vesp@ COSA 200 (like the one below)
bearing the number plate FJ 9149....
On Sunday the 8th of October 1995....
a stray cat who use to rest on my scooter seat
decided to poop (pang sai) on it....
As the Chinese believe 'sai' is 'cai' (luck)...
a trip to the Singapore Pools won me S$500....
AN and I decided to buy ourselves a set of
rod and reel each with the winnings...
and the rest is history......

CASIBAO CA-718

Yes I know, the name sounds like CASIO...
It's a 18+1 LED light that we've bought just before
our 'last minute St John's Island trip'...
It's bright.....runs on three 'AA' battries and
it cost only S$6.50 from a hardware shop in
Bukit Merah Central
This gadget serves us well the first time
but we've yet to know if it is going to last......
Definitely can't pass the G-Shock test......
but I guess if we use it with care.....it'll be doing
more shining at our future catches.....

A short trip to the Saint John's Island

This has been quite a 'last minute' trip.....
we all gathered at the Marina South Pier
at 9:30pm in full force....
FJ, AN, ALX, HN, DS, BRY, SN + TT, ADY + CHN
The charted boat that cost S$100 each way
for up to 12 pax can be arranged at 65326216

Mai tu liao.....

It's was a 15 minutes boat ride....
We reached the island and quickly set up our gears
along the brightly lit jetty walkway.....

We fished along the beach beside the jetty
There wasn't much action except for
a couple of small fishes and AH SENGs...

you must be asking....why post these two pictures?
I guess most of us are suffering from AHSENGPHOBIA
so we must face our greatest fear
...by staring at these photos for a count of 10...

3 of us took a stroll to the 'causeway' that linked
St John's Island and Lazarus Island to try our luck there
but the current was too strong for any of our setups....
so we head back to fish along the beach beside the jetty

HN had a few encounters with flower crabs...
but they escaped from the apollo rig setup during  wind-up..
So we decided to give this a try...

HN in action........DS having lessons

the result.....

requests started pouring in but
I've only have one pack of 'Spring Basket W/Net'
so the rest decided to do a 'Hillbilly Handfishin'

ADY......the leader of the pack

We've arranged for the boat to pick us up at 2:15am
........since there weren't much action........

Welcome (back) to Singapore

Catch contributions by ALX, AN, DS and HN

Overall, it was not so much about fishing.....
it's more about family bonding and having a good time.

......although SN did mentioned he had strange encounters
but hey, that's not suprising considering the island's past...

Uncle Chong's Boat - 5th December 2011

The date we were all eagerly anticipating...
our first trip (for most of us) on Chongster's Boat...
there were a total of ten hookers onboard.

The unmistakable mermaid painting on his engine cover

SP681F......the boat number that is commonly seen in
local offshore catch reports on www.fishingkaki.com/forum/
(BRY in the background talking to Abu)

Sea was calm....not much current and the bite rate was good.
We have hook-ups on every spot and we were mainly
using live prawns on paternoster rigs with size 3 sinkers...

Here are some of the star performers.....

starting with ADY's John's Snapper
 KL's John's Snapper

 SN's John's Snapper

AN's John's Snapper

 FJ's Grouper

HN did extremely well on her entry level set-up....
Daiwa Jupiter Flame 602 + Daiwa Joinus 2500
She's got the most catch among all...
(pity we fail to get any shots of her catch)

The Daiwa Sweepfire 3500B didn't disappoint AN too...
even though she did mention that the reel weigh a ton

A shot of everyone in action....

Besides the regulars, we caught a few 'specials' like Cuttlefish,
Veined Catfish (a.k.a. Ah Seng)......and Hasselt's Bambooshark

The Hainan gang........

A group shot of our catches...

......"We are family...."

Out shopping again....

Today we were out shopping for fishing stuff.....at
Joe Fishing Tackle, 331 Beach Road S(199562)

SN bought the Daiwa Crossfire 3500....
A value-packed spinning reel that offers a high level
of fishing performance without the high price tag.
It has three ball bearings, plus a roller bearing.
Infinite Anti-Reverse that eliminates handle back play.
Twistbuster® line twist reduction.
And chrome-plated one-touch folding handle.
this was to match a couple of rods he loan from his friend

......the Eupro Twin Craft and Swiftpro

another reel bought previously from Joe...
the Abu Garcia Cardinal 302i

we also bought a variety of other stuffs....
Ranggongs, sinkers, swivels, dry baits,
hooks and more hooks......

Now, the tedious part.......tying

It has durable 7” wheels for all-terrain handling with large,
comfortable tow handle for one handed portability.
It comes with hinged lid, it's rust-proof
and has a leak-resistant drain.

26th November 2011 Catch Report

 Venue: shhhhh....
Duration: 23:00 to 01:40
Rigs: paternoster + floating rig
Baits: dead prawns
Who: FJ + AN

We were back at our favourite spot after a week of itch
but there were about 5 groups of anglers around us
.....something very unusual......
one even had a two-man dinghy & a long fishing net.

The night was pretty quiet but AN still manage to
reel in a reasonable size Russell's Snapper...
......the real Ang Zhor Kee

We call it a night with that one catch as
we were still recovering from our recent
holiday trip with our kids........

The sea is calling out for me.......

A family trip to our regular beach resort
from the 22nd to 25th of November 2011,
at the Golden Sands Resort, Penang

The sea fronting Batu Ferringhi kept calling
out to me but I can only imagine a fat Grouper
struggling to throw my size 1/0 hook.....
Didn't bring any gears as I fail to get hold of
a telescopic rod for fuss-free custom clearance.
......and getting a rod bag just for this trip to house
our regular rods seems a bit of a overkill....

the blue skies.....

the sea calling out to me as I was watching
my boy digging for the Dead Man's Chest....

Saturday, 19 November 2011
